Every digitalization process within a company has its challenges, as it’s never simply about creating a website or an e-commerce platform; it generally affects many departments and personnel within the company.
We have helped product manufacturers make the leap to becoming direct distributors through e-commerce (B2B and also B2C) and incorporate their products into marketplaces like Amazon, eBay, or similar. This, undoubtedly, affects sales, marketing, warehousing, accounting… And it must be taken into account. That’s why it’s important to have a clear roadmap and an appropriate approach.
But… What is digitalization in a company?
It is the process in which information technology transforms a company’s various internal and external processes. It’s not just about having a website or e-commerce, but taking it further and synchronizing it with the company’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) system or connecting it with its CRM for managing clients, users, etc.
A Mind Map
As designers, we cannot propose graphic solutions if we are not clear about what needs to be conveyed, what the brief is, or who the target audience is.
As developers, we cannot create applications, interactions, integrations, and migrations if we are not clear about the processes, the systems to be used, and what tools we have.
So, it’s not the first or second time we’ve created mind maps for digitalization for clients, where we show the different tools they will have in the company’s digital structure. How they interconnect, who is responsible for creating these bridges, and how we can develop them. Here’s a small example of one of our diagrams.
It’s always advisable to create a mind map to understand our objectives, what resources we have, and how we intend to achieve them. It helps us set the steps to follow, determine which actions to take, calculate our budgets, and advance processes for the future (like starting to work with certain information fields so you can use them for other tasks later on).
Benefits of Digitalization in Business
Many benefits can be found: from the simplification and automation of processes, expansion into new sales channels, to the correct organization of information and avoiding having to input information multiple times. Here are some examples of digitalization that Cactus has carried out:
→ Synchronization of stock, prices, and products with e-commerce: Several of our clients have an e-commerce platform that constantly updates the prices and stock of their products, as well as their identifying values such as attributes, images, or documentation automatically. This keeps the page information always up-to-date.
→ Automatic creation of leads:
Recently, we have been including automatic lead (potential client) creation for our clients after each contact, price, or offer request made from their websites. This allows them to create new business opportunities and expand their contact and client base.
→ Client area: This is a common request; a user area where clients can view their orders, statuses, request returns or report incidents, dynamically download delivery notes and invoices, and generally place online orders with their assigned prices.
After several digitalization processes, our experience helps us determine our clients’ main needs, conducting individualized analyses and proposing solutions that improve internal and external operations in all areas. Organizing this digitalization process from start to finish is what we do in our strategy service.
